Web Site Specification

Web Site Proposal for Columbine Pronaos

Site Developer: Mark P Martin DBA Emporium Web Design
Estimated total pages: 10 pages, 1 photo gallery, and 4 forums

This specification is designed to be a guide for the web developer and as a reference for the Columbine Pronaos. This document is a description of the proposed web site and answers the following questions:

                    I.            What are the measurable goals for this site?

II.            Who is the target audience?

III.            What are the technical limitations?

IV.            What is the required content?

                 V.            What are the features and feature priorities?

VI.            What is the site structure?

VII.            What is the proposed schedule for completion?

VIII.            Who will maintain the site?

                 I.            Goals

By developing this web site, the following goals will be met:

Provide for members a centralized location for news, announcements, reading, and discussion.

Establish a point of contact (email) for officers to Grand Lodge, other affiliated bodies, and members.

Internet marketing to advertise membership in AMORC and the Columbine Pronaos to the public who are interested in mystical topics.

Provide a public service through the availability of relevant educational and enlightening mystical information.

            II.            Target Audience

The intended audience of the site is defined as:

Group #1:  Members of Columbine Pronaos and other AMORC affiliated bodies.  Various levels of web experience from limited to extensive.  Visiting web site for details of meetings and events, to read articles etc., and to share relevant articles and information with other members.  Web site is found through announcements in the printed bulletin, in Pronaos meetings, through private email and word of mouth.

Group #2:  Local area AMORC members who are not active members of the Columbine Pronaos or other affiliated bodies.  Varied levels of web experience.  Same purposes as Group #1.  Referred almost entirely from the printed bulletin.

Group #3:  General Public, interested in mystical topics.  Moderate to extensive web experience.  Visiting web site for information on specific mystical topics that appear on the web site, for information about AMORC or similar initiatic/participatory mystical organizations.  Referred mostly from search engine results, and printed advertising literature and announcements, and public programs presented by Columbine Pronaos.

        III.            Technical Limitations

The following are the known technical issues at this time.

Some users may have slower dial-up connections.  This is sometimes a problem for web sites that host lots of large graphics.  This problem will be addressed by limiting the number, size, and distribution of graphics throughout the web site.

The Pronaos has a moderately large library of reading material, which could be well represented in an on-line searchable database.  The proposed Webmaster does not possess database skills at this time.  Such a feature will not be included in the web site specification at this time.

The Pronaos may want to publish some material that is secured for access by Columbine Pronaos members only.  The proposed Webmaster does not possess Internet security skills at this time.  Members only material will not be posted on the web site, nor will secured sections of the web site be included in the web site specification.  The exception will be off-the-shelf web components which already have security features included.

          IV.            Content Requirements

               V.            Features and Prioritizing

The following table lists all features to be included in the web site, and their priority.

Must have:  Mandatory requirements that cannot be eliminated.  Feature is essential to primary purposes of the web site.

Should have:  May create the site without it, but without this feature the site might not be as competitive as it could. Feature adds value, but is not essential.

Could have:  These features may or may not be feasible and may not make cost sense, but this is the placeholder for all things desired, that don't fit in the other two categories.
